Here is our list of Salves & Balms, Butters & Cremes… and MORE!

These oil-based concoctions are made seasonally, according to when the plant is at the proper maturity level for harvesting – flower, leaf, root, or all of them. The color and consistency will vary somewhat from batch to batch; this is normal and is part of the artisanal quality of hand-made herbal products. All salves are available in 1-ounce tins @ $12 each. Some salves may be available in 4-ounce size, please inquire: WILDNWEEDY@FRONTIER.COM.

Dead Nettle First-Aid BalmLamium purpureum is the botanical name for this ubiquitous little ground cover whose properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-fungal, all thanks to its component germacrene D. Use for minor cuts, scrapes and wounds, and to moisturize the skin around scabby bites and so on. Let the kiddos apply it themselves, they will love the skull on the label!

Grandma’s Magic Healing Salve is based on the recipe found in Doreen’s book, The Wild & Weedy Apothecary. This salve is based on comfrey leaf, plantain leaf, chickweed, self-heal, yarrow and St. John’s Wort, with varying quantities of violet leaf, elderberry leaf, goldthread, mint, sage, lavender, monarda, thyme, rosemary, and cedar. Use for scrapes, scratches, chafing, and any minor skin irritation. Steeped in olive oil and hardened with beeswax, this is a basic “herbal green salve” which every herbalist makes in their own signature way.

Marigold Lip Balm is made with the petals of Calendula officinalis, sometimes called marigold. The petals are melted into cocoa butter and olive oil, then hardened with beeswax. Use as a lip balm, or for any type of skin irritation especially for babies & children. This balm is also useful as a pregnant mother’s tummy rub.

Poplar Bud Salve is made from the resinous spring buds of the Cottonwood tree (Populus spp.). The sticky leaf-buds are removed from the stem one at a time – there is no fast way to do this. The buds are gently heated in olive oil for many hours until they release their fragrant resin. Like White Willow bark, poplar offers analgesic anti-inflammatory properties when used topically. Hardened with beeswax.

Roseberry Lip Balm is a special treat, made with organic rose petals, coconut oil, rose hip seed oil, raspberry seed oil and cocoa butter, and essential oil of the Damask Rose. This balm is hardened with candelilla wax, making it 100% plant-based. Use this balm anywhere on your body.

Veterinary Salve is an external healing salve for the feathery, furry and scaled ones. Use as needed on any type of abrasion or dry patch, including their kissable snout. We infuse Calendula, Echinacea and St. John’s Wort in olive oil for this salve, hardened with beeswax. Formulated by a veterinarian who practices holistic care and shared with us by a local wildlife rehabber.
